Andalusia is home to 4 of Spain's 15 UNESCO Geoparks, i.e. areas with exceptional geological formations. This puts Spain in second place after China in the ranking of UNESCO Geoparks.

• Sierras Subbéticas [Official info page]: Numerous ammonites can be found there on the former seabed. Fossils of snail-like molluscs that populated the Tethys Sea around 150 million years ago. We pass through the Parque natural de las Sierras Subbéticas on our Córdoba-route.

• Cabo de Gata-Níjar [Official info page]: The volcanic, metamorphic rock of this area (472 square kilometers) on the east coast of Andalusia was formed from fossil coral reefs and sedimentary deposits. We pass through the Parque Natural del Cabo de Gata-Níjar on our Granada route.

• Die Badlands von Granada [Official info page]: The geopark extends over 4722 square kilometers northeast of and around Guadix. Important geomorphologic forms in badlands are canyons, gorges and tower-like formations of sedimentary rocks, in which countless fossils can be found. We drive through this dry terrain with deep erosion gullies on our Córdoba route and visit Guadix - the city of cave dwellings - on our Granada route.

• Sierra Norte de Sevilla [Official info page]: The nature park covers an area of 1774 square kilometers and is located in the north of the province of Seville, on the mountain ranges of the central Sierra Morena region. Most of the rock formations there were formed around one billion to 250 million years ago. We drive through parts of the park on our Córdoba route.
